By Edwin Edson

You'll never get rid of your acne problem if you put too much faith in the countless myths about acne that are floating around. Many of these myths will do far more harm than good if you try them out for yourself. Avoid these common acne myths and you'll be off to a great start.

For the majority of people, they think only teenagers get acne. It might even be a worse problem for adults to have, because teenagers are expected to have acne. It might be small comfort, but you are part of a large group, when you get acne as a teenager, even though it can still cause emotional problems. When you make it past the teenage years and become acne free, it can be difficult for an adult to wake up with acne. There is no age limit for acne, as one half of women and a quarter of men, will have to deal with acne, long after their high school days. So, while it's not quite as common in adults, it's hardly unusual. There is no reason to stress out, because no matter what age you get acne, there are ways to treat it effectively.

It is still unclear as to whether or not acne is caused by stress. There is little evidence that the hormones in your body are triggered by your levels of stress. This will cause acne. Stress may not be the root cause of acne. But, it could make the condition worse. One way or another, stress is not good for you. So, try to figure out how you can reduce your stress levels. In addition, you should not allow your acne to get out of control on stress you out. This can happen when someone has a severe case that's hard to get rid of. Try to get rid of it. Do not forget that your acne problem will get better.

Cosmetics and acne is a somewhat complex matter. Using the proper kind of makeup can go a long way towards hiding small acne outbreaks. There are many though who believe that acne is part of the problem and not the solution. So, how do you know if makeup is safe to wear if you suffer from acne? That is a question that can't really be answered in a general way. It will vary from one person to the next based on skin sensitivity and the specific cosmetics being used. It's best to look for products that are labeled noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic, as these are unlikely to irritate your skin or make your acne worse. If your acne is severe however you should discuss makeup with your doctor first. Your skin is unique to you and your dermatologist will have the inside track as to what might be causing the irritations to your skin.

There are many different things that can lead to acne - most people believe the wrong things. You'll find that many medications for acne are specific to the person seeking treatment. It's worth taking a little time out of your busy schedule in order to see what the deal is with any acne medications or treatment methods you're considering.
