Can Stress Trigger Pimples?

By Daryl Chapman

Stress management is indispensable because people deal with taxing situations everyday. But is really a link that exists between adult acne development and stress? In 2003, a Stanford University study published in the Archives of Dermatology uncovered that students had acne flare-ups during exams. During examinations, students are under so much stress. The researchers concluded that acne severity is correlated to intensifying stress.

Still, experts are clueless on how pressure worsens acne. They only know that the cells that generate sebum have receptors for stress hormones. Sebum when mixed with bacteria and dead skin cells can cause blockage.

Deep Breathing

If you are like many people who are experiencing acne whenever under severe stress, there are different ways to minimize acne. Try breathing exercises techniques because it can help relieve stress. The key to deep breathing is to breathe deeply from the stomach. Get as much fresh air as possible inside your lungs.

Mindfulness Meditation

Based on report of helpguide.org, meditations are used by people for many years and it has been proven to reduce overwhelming stress. When meditating, it is important to pick a secluded place like your home office, garden, place of worship or any space where you can relax without distractions or interruptions. Assign a point of focus. Choose an object that will enhance your concentration.

Facial Routine

Wash the face regularly. As not to leave your skin dry, wash your face twice daily. Using exfoliating creams and home microdermabrasion kits are also recommended by experts to allow fresh skin to develop. On the other hand, take caution to use these products because wrong applications can only worsen the acne.

Avoid Pricking The Pimples

People squeeze on their pimples because they are under severe stress and seeing a forming zit on their chin or brow can add to the stress that they are experiencing. However, pricking is inadvisable because the dirt from the nails can transfer to the inflamed skin, causing more harm than good.

Divert Attention

If you are strained and are always looking through a mirror, the tendency is you will do anything to get rid of the pimple. You will either prick them or do something that you will regret. Use diversion to take your mind off your pimples. You can read a book or play video games. Do not look at the mirror to avoid temptation of pricking your blemishes. If you have no things to fixate yourself, you can just try napping, which is good for you.

When a person is under severe stress, pimples and blemishes can worsen. Above are excellent ways to help relieve stress and to reduce pimples. Stress is a fact of life. It can only lead to destruction when it becomes difficult to bear and interrupts your everyday living.
