Moisturizer for Oily Skin: What Works for You?

By Rob Sutter

While I may sound like a cheesy spokesperson pitching something on an infomercial, are you sick of your oily skin and ready to eradicate the issue? Well, as cheesy as that fictional pitch may have been, I know that the concept of outbreaks isn't an attractive one and I speak from experience, since high school was tough for me because of them. You are warranted in wanting to get rid of those. It seems like you can, since many a moisturizer for oily skin is available on the market. Which one will work best for you?

Before directly applying any kind of moisturizer to your skin, know that the oils that are already on your face are already producing a degree of moisture. If you want to invest in a moisturizer for oily skin, know that your skin shouldn't be moist with the oils already and invest in facial creams to remedy the situation beforehand. Likewise and other such companies that pride themselves on skincare will be sure to point such an aspect out to its consumers before recommending any degree of use of the moisturizer.

There may not be any place better to go to for skincare know-how than to those who make their living off of medicinal knowledge. Dr. Mehmet Oz of "The Dr. Oz Show" fame gave his thoughts on moisturizer use on Sharecare.com. He said that while many think moisturizer shouldn't be combined with oily skin, there are types of moisturizer that exist to help cleaning. The word, "noncomedogenic," has to be seen on the label of the bottle so that you know it won't clog pores greatly.

There are many oil-free solutions that can be utilized if one has such a strong need for moisturizers for oily skin. Alpha Hydrox is helpful in that it is able to exfoliate the skin and eliminate the oily content of pores in the process. Neutrogena's Oil-Free Moisturizer is another reliable solution, since it can hydrate the skin and eliminate oily residue as well. These sorts of moisturizers can be used but you must be certain that cleansing should take place first so that there's no sense of failure in putting them to work.

There are several opinions that you should take into consideration when deciding on the ideal moisturizer for your oily complexion. You may want to listen to a specialist since that person can never really steer you wrong. While that kind of advice is always going to be reliable, you should also think about the number of choices you have at your disposal. With the specialist's advice in mind, deciding on the kind of moisturizer you feel comfortable with should, ultimately, be a nonissue.
