Several Christian Arguments Against Evolution

By Patty Goff

Christians believe that God created the universe whilst evolutionists believe that purely natural forces have driven the evolutionary process. They believe that life is a result of random events in the cosmos causing chemical processes that created life. They believe too, that all forms of life on earth are related, from the simplest to the most complex forms. Christian arguments against evolution are varied, some being more valid than others. There are scientists who support both sides of the argument.

One of the scientific laws used by Christians to argue their point is the law of thermodynamics. The second law says that complex systems degenerate over time when left one, becoming more disorderly. This flies in the face of evolutionary theory whereby the opposite is said to occur. Evolutionists believe that progress occurs over time resulting in more complex systems.

Christians do not believe that a random process can result in life in all its complexity. They do not believe that the intricate brains, digestive, circulatory, reproductive and other human bodily systems could have evolved bit by bit over time as suggested by evolutionists. They argue that the reproductive system, for example, would of necessity require full functionality right from the start for reproduction to have taken place at all.

The primary evidence evolutionists use to substantiate their view is that of fossil remains. They believe that fossil evidence exists that proves the development of humans from primate ancestors. However, Christians argue that any information obtained from fossils are subject to interpretation. The only foolproof way to know how old they really are is to have been there when death occurred. The fossil record still does not demonstrate an unbroken chain of life from simple to complex, despite discoveries that claim to bridge the gaps.

Evolutionists believe that genetic mutation and a process of natural selection results in positive changes. For example, the development of a longer neck in a giraffe that allows it to reach more leaves means that it is healthier and outlives one with a short neck. The short necked ones eventually die out. Christians argue that mutations are negative and result in many of the diseases humans face today.

The complexity of human DNA is used by many Christians as an argument. They say it is impossible to believe that its construction is not the work of an intelligent Creator. A number of scientists believe it to be unlikely or highly improbable for life to have arisen spontaneously from matter. They acknowledge that the only satisfactory explanation is intelligent design.

Molecular biology is a field that has provided fuel for Christians. Dr. Michael Denton conducted tests in order to compare the same cells in different species. He compared the make-up of the amino acids in these different organisms. His conclusion was that the results did not support the theories of traditional evolutionists of first fish, then amphibian, reptile and finally mammal.

Christians have many convincing truths to support their belief that God created the universe. This is what they read in the Bible and it forms the basis of their faith. Despite the fact that many scientists support evolutionary theories, there are those who regard it as more than likely that there is some form of intelligent design.
