Why Is There So Much Interest in Home Remedies for Acne?

By Brian McGuire

The search for more information about home remedies for acne is increasing every day. So many people are affected by acne and the condition seems to be difficult to cure. Even though medical professionals have various treatments for acne, many people are seeking to find help before seeing a doctor. My experience was the same, trying everything I could learn to solve my problem. Since there are many people affected by this problem, we would think there is a way to take care of this on our own. What you will find is the need to get more information about what causes acne and the many ways people have found to get improvement or even be cured of the problem.

One of the biggest mysteries about acne is why there is no single treatment that just works for everybody. With so much research being done by manufacturers of acne products and medical science for new medicines, we would expect there to be simple fix, as with other skin disorders. However, it seems that acne strikes everybody in so many different ways that it just remains for us to find something to try for ourselves. How we feel about acne and our facial appearance is a big influence as to how major a problem this is for each of us. When an acne breakout appears, most of us just get this big surprise with no warning. Then we need to do something really fast.

As for home remedies, there are many methods and systems recommended to help with acne. Be warned that most home remedies are very slow acting. Many people give up or try some another system for lack of seeing results. We really want the acne to just go away right now. Here are the main strategies that people are using in the effort to fix their acne problem without going to a medical professional. When you wake up after sleeping, you see a pimple or more than one. There are things to try and make the pimple smaller immediately. If you can avoid trying to pop it, there are steps you can take to reduce the swelling, such as put ice on it. It is really the inflammation and swelling that causes the pimple to become noticeable. It is very difficult to NOT pop the pimple and let it drain. All experts tell us to NOT pop the pimple because the "scar" may eventually become worse and longer lasting than the pimple. Another method some people like is toothpaste. Put a small amount of toothpaste on the pimple, and wait for it to dry before washing it off. Note that some medical experts say that toothpaste does nothing.

A good first thing to do is cleaning your face to have less skin oils and dead skin cells, which are two main factors in an acne breakout. So many products are being advertised with special ingredients as to be impossible to decide what to try. Plain old soap and water was the first thing I tried and it works to some extent. Most popular face cleaning products work by reducing the dead skin cells which are causing the blockage of pores and also act as an antimicrobial to control the bacterial count on your skin. An ingredient called benzoyl peroxide has been used by many people for its ability to attack acne quickly. There are many products such as facial cleansers and gels with a small percent of benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. Side effects that are negative include redness, overly dry skin, and irritation. This is why I do not like benzoyl peroxide very much, since it seems to give you a new problem while reducing the acne. Your budget and how long you can wait for results could big the biggest influence on what regimen or method you want to try to fix your acne problem. We like to try home remedies to save money and may be less irritating than a purchased product. Always be careful with home remedy ideas because some cause worse skin irritation.

What most home remedies for acne require is to put something on your face before sleeping over-night. By removing excess skin oils and dead skin cells before getting to sleep seems like common sense. Planning ahead to try and reduce the factors that seem to cause acne is one of the best methods. Now the decision is to find something to try. Items you may find already in your home could give you something to try without buying a high powered commercial facial cleanser or skin conditioning product. There are a lot of home remedies that still require buying things at a store that do not include powerful chemicals. What this really comes down to is the cost and waiting time you are willing to put into this effort, waiting to see what will cure your acne problem.

A really different approach to get rid of acne is totally another direction. It is reasonable to understand how eating different foods and your habits can affect the acne. People who have tried to change eating and lifestyle report great results and there are many good testimonials about this. To challenge this, it seems medical experts disagree on how much your diet or amount of exercise can prevent your acne breakouts. The big controversy may be related to how long it takes to see a difference. Try eating different foods for a long time, such as weeks and months. Maybe after a week or so of eating a changed diet you will begin to think that nothing is getting better. I would say it is really difficult to not go back to your eating habits that may be causing bad things like acne. One thing to consider is it does make sense to think how the main cause of the acne problem is internal. If something you eat or how much you exercise could change the amount of skin oils coming out, this could lead to your cure for acne. No matter how much you prepare your skin with cleaners or conditioners, maybe just having less skin oils produced could be the thing that is your cure.
